In the past couple of years, there have been many stories about the invasion of insects popularly known as stink bugs. Most people have known these little shield-shaped brown insects for years but never knew how much of a pest they can really be until recently when several farmers and property owners started reporting cases of great crop and tree destruction. Since the so-called stink bug invasion in numerous parts across the country, people have been desperately using different kinds of stink bug trap to control the damage.

There are several stink bug control products available in the market today but if users do not really understand what they are up against, these products can easily become a total waste of money. Stink bugs belong to the genus Pentatomidae, from the Greek words “pente” which means five and “tomos” which means section. The Pentatomidae genus has about 4,700 sub-species and North America serves as the home to around 250 of these sub-species. The scutellum body of stink bugs is trapezoidal in shape, and for this, they are also called by many as shield bugs.

Aside from the fact that these insects eat fruits, crops and the sap of plants causing them to rot or die, the reason why people hate stink bugs is the fact that these little fellows release a chemical that smells bad. They are like small stink bombs waiting to release their foul smelling horror into your homes. If only the smell goes away after a few minutes then stink bugs won’t be much of a nuisance to home owners. But unfortunately, the smell stays for days even after washing the drapes and cleaning the upholsteries.
